BEST THING ABOUT IT: compactADDITIONAL LIKES: sturdy, well madeWORST THING ABOUT IT: a liuttle small to hold when belt cutting (not a big issue)ADDITIONAL DISLIKES/CONCERNS: need to be bright colors to be easier to findWARRANTY: none mentionedCATEGORICAL GRADING:Presentation/Packaging: AQuality/Craftsmanship/Materials: AFunctionality/Utility/Versatility: AInstructions/Ease-of-Use/Comfort: BMarketing vs Reality: ACOMMENTS: Based on the British detective shows we watch this happens with greater frequency than we realized! Ahem, anyway, after seeing a number of characters drown from lack of one of these devices (wife: “If they had one of those do-hickies, they would have survived.”), I ordered some. These are small but mighty tools one hopes they’ll never have to use. I tested the seatbelt cutter on some nylon webbing (with not quite as dense of weave as a seatbelt, however) and it sliced through it like butter. It is clear that it was intended to be used from the bottom of the hand (grasp it with the blade opening facing down like you were going to stab something) and quickly yank it through the seat you’ve pulled away from yourself to provide space. This quick stabbing or pulling motion (across the front of the body) allows the blade to cut more cleanly than trying to use it slowly. The manufacturer provides a very smoothly cut 3” inch disc of glass on which to test it. BE SURE TO WEAR EYE PROTECTION. It works just like a sprinig loaded center punch. Just place the tip against the glass then push to cause the pin to eject and strike the glass. We tried it on the test glass and it shattered immediately. Wish I had recorded it. Had to vacuum up the chips of shatter proof glass off the workbench and floor space araound it. Wife and I were both impressed, but she made me clean it up.MARKETING vs REALITY GRADE: AMOST SUITABLE FOR: every carIS IT WORTH IT?: At ~$8/ea, and considering one can be a life-saver, absolutely (but hoping you never get to find out)*PRECISE RATING: 5RECOMMENDATION: I’d get it if I were you. Here’s hoping you never have to test it in real life!(As always, I will report back if there are any durability issues with additional use.)PHOTO INFO (photos are loaded in order, but may be rearranged when finally posted):1) The two devices on grid2) Red device with caps on both ends3) Black device uncapped4) Test webbibg orecut5) Test webbing after cuttingOn a personal note, I try to cover everything I think one might like to know about each product, especially something not covered in the listing. So, I hope you found something informative and useful in this review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. Good luck with your decision.*Rating scale:5 = definitely buy again, happy to have it (exceptional in several characteristics,)4 = probably buy again (decent job of doing what I need, excels in one or two characteristics)3 = perhaps buy again after researching options (functions OK, looks OK, decent quality, average life expectancy but no outstanding characteristics) (in other words, average)2 = would not buy again (low end/below average merchandise and/or service, but not totally worthless)1 = sorry I bought it the first time (poor performance in several characteristics, no redeeming characteristics)

I’ve seen the videos of this tool in action. It delivers a strike to the tempered glass of a car window which causes it to shatter into small pieces. Even when the car is under water and the pressure of the water is preventing regular window hammers from causing the shattering, this tool delivers the right kind of strike which will do the job.The key is the spring loaded striking point–it is not exposed, rather you need to push the tool against the window which puts tension into the spring, and it releases with such force at a single point that the glass shatters the way it is supposed to, no matter how much pressure is pressing against the surface. You would never be able to open the door when the car still had air inside under that kind of pressure, the electric windows won’t work when water enters the electrical system, and you can’t generate the force needed to shatter the window with the regular escape hammers you’ve seen around.I remember when safety glass was first starting to be used in all cars, the emergency workers started to carry spring-loaded, center punches, used in metalworking to provide an indentation for the point of a drill bit, for just this purpose. This tool seems like a consumer version with the same concept, but needed more so now that windows have been hardened to provide additional protection in crashes.

I got these for us to keep in each of our household vehicles. They’re lightweight and straightforward to use. I tried the seatbelt cutter on some plastic and netted items, and it cut through just fine. It catches slightly, so you have to hold the fabric taught. The set doesn’t come with any instructions except for what’s on the box, but it does come with a piece of glass. I’m assuming this is for you to test the glass breaker on, but I’m not sure. I’m too chicken to try it, because I don’t know if the glass will fly all over the place. I can’t tell if it’s laminated glass.

I heard of a non-successful rescue of a mother and daughter trapped in their car in the water and found out about these glass breakers originally designed by the officer who was at the scene. Although she had the old-fashioned hammer type breaker, she was unable to put it to use. You’d need a lot of force to succeed breaking car glass, which is incredibly tough. I had to break into my own car once, where rocks didn’t even dent it- took a heavy cowboy boot a lot of effort. I changed out the old fashioned hammer breakers for these. They are smaller and spring-loaded, so anyone can make them work. In case you are in such a situation, remember to cut the safety belt first and then press this device into a CORNER of the window. This should be in everyone’s vehicle. I’m glad to put one in each of our cars, and ordered more for our kids. These are small and come with a little clip to hold it in place. There is even a piece of glass for you to test it on. With flash flooding and bad weather at every corner nowadays, like a spare tire keep one always in the vehicle within easy reach.

The Sinsen Window Breaker Seat Belt Cutter is a compact, handy tool that could save your life or someone else’s life. The kit comes with a piece of glass to test the tool so you can see how well and easily it works at breaking glass. I’m glad it came with the sample because I didn’t want to test it on my own window but it works much more easily than I expected. You just push against the glass and boom the glass shatters. I wanted to see what happens after you use it and it auto resets so you can use it again. Very convenient! Also, I didn’t want to test the seat belt cutter and it didn’t come with a sample so I passed on that. However, given how well the glass breaker worked I would trust the seat belt cutter to work just as well. The clips that hold the tool are very handy and the tape used to hold the clip is exceptionally strong. Overall, a reliable and useful tool that can save your life or the life of someone else for an inexpensive price.
